The below job description will outline this position of: Vessel Manager

Typically, this person will have full responsibility and accountability for the success of the operations and people on board their vessels.

HSB Technical’s client is a very established and well-regarded business entity.

Duties and responsibilities of the Vessel Manager:

  • Make sure all vessels are operated in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner, ensuring compliance with class, statutory and company requirements.
  • Provide day-to-day technical and operational support and guidance to assigned vessels.
  • Oversee vessel budgets and operating expenditure.
  • Prepare the maintenance criteria in accordance with safety management systems.
  • You will be required to attend all ships during dry dock and repair periods as directed by the business.
  • If repairs are needed ordering parts, materials to be delivered to the ship on time.
  • Matters related to all services regarding docking work and class & flag surveys.
  • The monitoring and closing of all guaranteed claims raised by the vessel during the newly delivered vessel’s guarantee period.
  • Carry out ship inspections as per ship visit plan and prepare the report as per company procedure.
  • Develop and coach crew in line with competence and performance management objectives. Participate in interviews and make recommendations regarding new-hires and promotions.

Qualifications and requirement for the Vessel Manager:

  • The Vessel manager must be a holder of a Class I or Class II level Certificate of Competence (Engine) with Advanced Tanker Safety Training (Gas, Liquid or Chemical) and have experience as 2nd (1st Assistant) Engineer or above on LNG/LPG, Liquid or Chemical Vessels.


  • An engineering degree qualification with at least three years’ experience in in the technical department of a comparable shore organisation or a recognised marine industry entity (Flag, Class, etc).
  • Frequent worldwide travel is required, sometime at very short notice to attend vessels as requested by the company.
  • Confident in working with budget control / cost management for each vessel.
