The below job description will outline this position of Vessel Superintendent.
This would suit a Chief Engineer or Class Surveyor)

Typically, this person will ensure the seaworthiness and regulatory compliance of all company-owned and managed vessels, maintaining their “In Class” status at all times. This includes adherence to company IMS policies and procedures.
The role involves managing the technical operations of assigned vessels within budget constraints and promptly informing Line Managers / Accounts Managers of any anticipated budget overruns.

Duties and responsibilities of the Vessel Superintendent:
• Oversee the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of all shipboard mechanical, electrical machinery, and navigational electronics.
• Ensure compliance of all vessel equipment, systems, and structures with SOLAS, IMO, Class & Flag administration regulations, and environmental legislation.
• Specify, arrange, supervise, and report on vessel repair and maintenance, including dry-docking. Submit dry-dock specifications for approval at least three months in advance and maintain cost control throughout.
• Maintain the company’s Planned Maintenance, Purchasing, and Defect Reporting systems up to date both on board and in the office. Update defect report comments within a week of port calls and keep dry dock/project job reports current.
• Review electronic Engine Room Log sheets and monitor vessel condition.
• Manage the purchase of vessel spares, engine room stores, and contract services within budget. Inform Line Managers and Accounts Managers of projected budget overspends in advance.
• Provide pre-port call briefings on work to be done and attending contractors. Ensure smooth and safe port calls, adhering to all relevant safety procedures and initiating Stop The Job for unsafe practices.
• Liaise with Classification, Port State, and Flag State representatives regarding legislation and surveys.

Qualifications and requirement for the Project Superintendent:
• Sea Going Chief Engineer, or equivalent, with relevant offshore support experience.
• Prior experience in a similar role is preferred.
• Our client would consider someone from a Class Surveyor.
• Project management experience in dry docks and new builds.
• Experience in a similar role preferred.
